We Survive Because He Saved Us

Hello Layton Legacy Stake!

I want to start by saying - I LOVE the Young Women of this Stake. You are amazing and I hope you know how important you are to us.

In April, 2022 Elder Kearon talked about how much people love survival stories. I have been thinking a lot about his talk. After finding out I had cancer during Trek last year, I wondered how I could possibly survive, how can I tell my kids and how was it going to end?

Elder Kearon reminds us that we can survive – whatever you are going through, because we have already been saved – “by the One who has suffered the very torment you are suffering and endured the very agony you are enduring.  Jesus has overcome the abuses of this world to give you power to not only survive but one day, through Him, to overcome and even conquer—to completely rise above the pain, the misery, the anguish, and see them replaced by peace.”

After sharing the news of my diagnosis, my family and I agreed that this would be our year of miracles. Every day we would seek to recognize the miracles in our lives. I know that these miracles occur because of Jesus Christ. He made the impossible possible. He overcame all things so that we might overcome OUR things.

The Atonement and resurrection of Christ is a gift and a miracle for all. I am deeply grateful for this gift. Christ’s love and peace have blessed my life over and over again. When we seek to find the miracles of the day, we can do hard things. Christ died for each of us and because of the Atonement and Resurrection we can seek and expect miracles everyday.

President Nelson said it so well, “Jesus Christ is indeed risen. He is risen to lead His Church. He is risen to bless the lives of all God’s children, wherever they live. With faith in Him, we can move the mountains in our lives.”

I know this to be true.

With Love,
